Celebrating 20 years – thank you, Laurel!

We at Advicas proudly say congratulations and a HUGE thank you to our Office Manager, Laurel Regan, who this month celebrated 20 years of employment as part of the Advicas team (beginning in its earlier days as The Thornley Group and TBKG).

Laurel is the glue that holds the company together and has played a major part in maintaining the quality of service we endeavour to achieve in our day to day work. We asked her to share a bit about what the past 20 years has been like for her, and this is what she had to say.

Though much has changed since 1996 in terms of computer systems, office equipment, and technology, one thing that has remained unfailingly consistent throughout my days with the company has been the people. More than just co-workers, my Advicas colleagues are an extended family, and I’m grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to spend the vast majority of my career in the company of such talented, supportive, and fun (sometimes a little crazy!) individuals.

I’m also thankful for the evolution of the internet and the adaptability of the Advicas team, both of which made it possible for me to carry on working for the company when I relocated to Windsor, Ontario several years ago. Though we no longer share the same physical space, we are able to stay connected via e-mail, phone, Skype, and weekly interoffice deliveries (which often, like a Kinder surprise, contain some random joke, gift, or gag item!), to the point where it sometimes feels as though I never really left, but rather am simply working in another room of the building.

My time with my teammates has always been marked by their creative generosity, which was certainly in evidence on the day of my 20 year “workiversary” when I answered a knock on my front door and found a surprise waiting for me: a gift from the office in the form of a gorgeous (and much longed-for) purple and cream Schwinn bicycle. Once I got over my shock I promptly set about ordering a helmet and outfitting the bike with a bell and wicker basket, and have since enjoyed several rides in the fresh air and sunshine courtesy of Advicas.

Thank you all – I’m so glad to be a part of the team!

Thank you for your dedication, Laurel, and enjoy cycling! Looking forward to the years ahead from the whole of the Advicas staff.
